(v) In Washington County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is sixty-five hundred
dollars ($6,500).
(2) The State's Attorney shall appoint a deputy State's attorney, whose salary is
to be determined by the County Commissioners.
(3) The State's Attorney shall appoint Ian] TWO assistant State's [attorney]
ATTORNEYS, whose [salary is] SALARIES ARE to be determined by the
County Commissioners.
(4) The deputy State's Attorney and the assistant State's [attorney]
ATTORNEYS shall serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. Under the
direction of the State's Attorney or in the absence of the State's Attorney, the
deputy State's attorney and the assistant State's [attorney] ATTORNEYS shall
perform such acts and duties in relation to all criminal proceedings, [both] ALL
having the same legal powers as the State's Attorney, to represent the State in all
proceedings in relation to grand jury, circuit court, the District Court, boards,
commissions or agencies of this State or any county or political subdivision.
32-1.
It shall be the duty of the State's Attorney for Washington County to maintain
a Bureau of Identification and Criminal Investigation, and he shall employ, subject
to the approval of the County Commissioners of Washington County, a competent
[man] PERSON at a salary to be fixed by the County Commissioners, to
conduct the work of [said] THE Bureau, the [man] PERSON so appointed to
be capable of doing finger print, photographic, criminal investigation, and detective
work, and to devote so much of his time as the State's Attorney may direct to
criminal identification and criminal investigation work in Hagerstown and
Washington County, under the direction and supervision of the State's Attorney.
The County Commissioners of Washington County shall also pay printing,
stationery, telephone, stamps, traveling expenses, and other expenses that may be
necessary for the maintenance of said Bureau and shall levy for the same as
expenses of the State's Attorney's office. Bills for all expenses of said Bureau must
be presented direct to the County Commissioners for payment by the County
Commissioners, made out and sworn to on the regular forms in use by the County
Commissioners and must be certified to by the State's Attorney, and all false
swearing in such affidavits shall be deemed perjury and be punished as such.
32-2.
From and after June 1, 1943, it shall be the duty of the State's Attorney for
Washington County to employ, subject to the approval of the County
Commissioners of Washington County, [a] competent [person] PERSONS at [a
salary] SALARIES as set by the County Commissioners, the (person]
PERSONS so employed to be capable of doing the necessary, stenographic and
clerical work in the office of the State's Attorney and Criminal Investigator for
Washington County, under the direction and supervision of the said State's
Attorney. The County Commissioners of Washington County shall pay the
[salary) SALARIES provided for under the terms of this section, in weekly
installments, to the [person] PERSONS so employed by the State's Attorney for
Washington County, and shall levy for the same as expenses of the State's
Attorney's office.
