35A.

(A)       THE RESIDENT JUDGE OR JUDGES IN EACH OF THE
COUNTIES OF CALVERT, CHARLES, PRINCE GEORGE'S, AND ST.
MARY'S, SHALL APPOINT ONE OR MORE OFFICIAL COURT
REPORTERS FOR THE CIRCUIT COURTS OF EACH OF THESE
COUNTIES, RESPECTIVELY. EACH REPORTER MUST BE AN EXPERT
STENOGRAPHER OR OTHERWISE COMPETENT TO RECORD COURT
PROCEEDINGS. EACH SHALL HOLD HIS POSITION DURING THE
PLEASURE OF THE JUDGE OR JUDGES WHO APPOINTED HIM.

(B)      (1) IN CALVERT, PRINCE GEORGE'S, AND ST. MARY'S
COUNTIES THE COURT REPORTER OR REPORTERS SHALL BE PAID
A PER DIEM OR AN ANNUAL SALARY FIXED BY THE COUNTY
GOVERNING BODY AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE COUNTY
ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE.

(2) IN CHARLES COUNTY THE COURT REPORTER OR
REPORTERS SHALL BE PAID A PER DIEM OR ANNUAL SALARY
FIXED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AFTER
CONSULTATION WITH THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE. THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A SUM
EQUAL TO ONE-THIRD OF THE SALARY OF THE COURT REPORTER.
THE CLERK OF THE COURT SHALL PAY THE SALARY TO THE
REPORTER OR REPORTERS BI-WEEKLY FROM THE FEES OF OFFICE
COLLECTED BY THE CLERK. PRIOR TO MAY 1 OF EACH YEAR THE
CLERK OF THE COURT SHALL SUBMIT A VOUCHER TO THE BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, AND THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS SHALL PROMPTLY REIMBURSE THE CLERK OF
THE COURT ONE-THIRD FOR THE AMOUNT OF THE COURT
REPORTER'S SALARY.

(C)       EACH COURT REPORTER SHALL BE REIMBURSED FOR
EXPENSES AS APPROVED BY THE COUNTY COURT.
REIMBURSEMENT SHALL BE MADE BY THE COUNTY TREASURER
OR SIMILAR OFFICER OF THE COUNTY IN WHICH THE SERVICES
WERE RENDERED, AS A PART OF THE EXPENSES OF THE COURT
AND UPON PRESENTATION OF A CERTIFICATE FROM THE CLERK
OF THE COURT SHOWING THE ATTENDANCE AND SERVICES OF
THE REPORTER.

(D)   AS DIRECTED BY THE RESPECTIVE COURTS, THE REPORTERS
SHALL ATTEND AND TAKE FULL STENOGRAPHIC NOTES OF OR
OTHERWISE RECORD ALL ORAL TESTIMONY AND JUDICIAL
OPINIONS IN ALL PROCEEDINGS IN THE COURT.

(E)      IN ANY PENDING CASE THE COURT MAY DIRECT THE
REPORTER OR REPORTERS TO TRANSCRIBE THE NOTES TAKEN
THEREFOR. AS DIRECTED BY THE COURT, THE COSTS OF
TRANSCRIPTION MAY BE IMPOSED AS PART OF THE COSTS IN THE
CASE OR PAID AS PART OF THE GENERAL EXPENSES OF THE
COURT.

(F)       UPON REQUEST BY ANY PARTY, A REPORTER SHALL
PREPARE AND FURNISH A TYPEWRITTEN TRANSCRIPT OF ANY
PORTION OF HIS NOTES, UPON PAYMENT BY THE PARTY OF THE
EXPENSES INCIDENT TO THE TRANSCRIPT AND AT A RATE FIXED
BY THE COURT.
