Ch. 784                            MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                                 1627

[[[(1)] (E) All assessors (by whatever title designated) of the several counties
and of the City of Baltimore shall devote full time to the discharge of their
respective duties.]]

[(m)] [[(F)]] (B) THE SCHEDULES OF THE CLASSIFICATIONS AND
THE SALARIES OF ALL ASSESSMENT PERSONNEL SHALL BE
DETERMINED BY THE SECRETARY OF PERSONNEL [[AND]] AFTER
CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF ASSESSMENTS AND
TAXATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 64A OF THIS CODE. [[
In any political subdivision in which the designation of certified assessment
evaluator has been obtained, and the State Department of Assessments and
Taxation shall have approved such designation, the salary scale for such position
shall be $500 per annum greater than the appropriate sum designated IN
ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 64A OF THIS CODE.]] THE SALARY
SCHEDULES DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS
SUBSECTION SHALL PROVIDE AN APPROPRIATE INCENTIVE TO
ENCOURAGE ASSESSORS TO ACHIEVE THE DESIGNATION OF
CERTIFIED ASSESSMENT EVALUATOR, NO COUNTY OR BALTIMORE
CITY MAY PROVIDE SALARY SUPPLEMENTS OR OTHER FRINGE
BENEFIT INCENTIVES FOR ASSESSORS. [in the schedule hereinabove in
this section. In any political subdivision in which there are field supervisors, the
salary scale for such position shall be $750 per annum greater than the appropriate
sum designated in the schedule hereinabove in this section.]

[(o) The County Commissioners of Allegany County may levy and pay such
additional sum in excess of the salary established by subsection (c) hereof to the
assessors of said county as in their discretion they shall determine (not to exceed
an aggregate payment of salary to each of said assessors of $5,200.00); provided,
however, that the portion of said salary to be paid by the State shall be limited to
the amount prescribed in the schedules heretofore set forth.

(p) The County Commissioners of Charles County shall pay to any employee of
the supervisor of assessments of said county who on January 1, 1957, had served
for a period of at least 30 years as such an employee, a pension of $125.00
monthly.

(q) Prince Georges County shall levy and pay a sum equal to the amounts
prescribed by the merit board of Prince George's County, which shall establish
within the merit system classifications adequately reflecting the qualifications,
knowledge and skill of the various classes of assessors, and which shall be
competitive in salary with those elsewhere paid for similar qualifications,
knowledge and skill, but the portion of said salary to be paid by the State shall be
limited to 60% of the amounts required to be paid according to the applicable scale
of Maryland State employees standard salary as otherwise provided in this
section.]

[238.

(a) Baltimore County, Maryland, shall be authorized and directed to levy and
pay each assessor of Baltimore County a salary as specified by the compensation
plan of Baltimore County, Maryland, from time to time, including increments for
time served and longevity specified for such grade, provided, however, that service
of assessors as such prior to June 30, 1968 shall be taken into consideration in
determining the salary payable to each such assessor and provided further that the
portion of said salary to be paid by the State shall be limited to the amount
provided in the schedule set forth in § 237 of this article.
