12-218.

(b) Every [school bus and] authorized emergency vehicle, in addition to any
other equipment and distinctive markings required by this article, shall be equipped
with signal lamps mounted as high as practicable, which shall be capable of
displaying to the front and to the rear a flashing red light or lights, and these lights
shall have sufficient intensity to be visible at 500 feet in normal sunlight. EVERY
SCHOOL VEHICLE MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS ESTABLISHED BY
THE ADMINISTRATOR SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH ALTERNATELY
FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
STANDARDS ADOPTED PURSUANT TO SECTION 12-228 OF THIS
ARTICLE.

(e) The flashing lighting described in subsections (b) and (c) of this section shall
not be used on any vehicle other than an authorized emergency vehicle, service
vehicle or school [bus] VEHICLE.

12-228.

(a)  The [Commissioner] ADMINISTRATOR is authorized to adopt standards
and specifications applicable to lighting equipment [on] and special warning
devices to be [carried] USED by school [buses] VEHICLES consistent with the
provisions of this subtitle, but supplemental thereto.

(b)   It shall be unlawful to operate any ALTERNATELY flashing warning
signal (light) on any school [bus] VEHICLE except when the school [bus]
VEHICLE is stopping or stopped on a [highway] ROADWAY for the purpose of
[permitting] RECEIVING OR DISCHARGING passengers (to board or alight
from the school bus].

(c)   Every school bus driver shall put in operation ALTERNATELY flashing
[red stoplights] WARNING SIGNALS not less than 100 feet before bringing the

bus to a full stop for the purpose of receiving or [[discharing]] DISCHARGING
(any school child or children or school teacher or school teachers]

PASSENGERS.

[12-403.1.

Every school bus in the State shall be equipped with a crossview or similar
mirror which permits the operator of the bus to observe through its use the area
from the front bumper of the bus forward to the point where direct observation is
possible, except those buses which may be excluded by specific designation by the
State Department of Education if the mirror would serve no useful purpose
because of the configuration of the school bus. The type of mirror and its method
of attachment shall be designated by regulation of the State Board of Education in
order to comply with the provisions of this section.]

15-109.

(a) Authority of [Department] ADMINISTRATION. - The (Department of
Motor Vehicles] MOTOR VEHICLE ADMINISTRATION by and with the
advice of the State [Board] DEPARTMENT of Education shall adopt and
enforce regulations not inconsistent with this article to govern the safe operation
land design] of all school (buses owned and operated be any school district or
privately owned and operated under contract with any school district in this State,
and the regulations shall by reference be made a part of the contract with a school
district] VEHICLES [[; ]] . [[ESTABLISH STANDARDS FOR THEIR
DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT]][[; AND PROVIDE FOR
THEIR REQUIRED USE.]] Every SCHOOL OR school district, its officers and
