decennial census.

[(b) Markings and signal lights required on school bus. - Every school bus shall
bear upon the front and rear thereof plainly visible signs containing the words
"school bus" in letters not less than 8 inches in height, and in addition shall be
equipped with red visual signals meeting the requirements of Section 12-218. The
red signals shall be actuated by the driver of a school bus whenever but only
whenever the bus is stopping on a highway for the purpose of receiving or
discharging passengers.]

[(c)] (B) SCHOOL VEHICLES SHALL BE MARKED AND IDENTIFIED
AS PROVIDED IN ADMINISTRATION REGULATIONS FOR THE
PARTICULAR TYPE OF SCHOOL VEHICLE INVOLVED. When a TYPE I
school [bus] VEHICLE is NOT being operated upon a highway for [purposes
other than] the actual transportation of children, STUDENTS OR TEACHERS
EITHER FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES [either to or from school] or in
connection with A school [activities] ACTIVITY, THE ALTERNATELY
FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS SHALL BE DE-ACTIVATED, [all markings
and registrations thereon indicating] THE WORDS "school bus" BOTH FRONT
AND REAR shall be covered or concealed AND REPLACED WITH A
SIMILAR SIGN USING THE WORD "CHARTER."

[(d)] (C) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need
not stop upon meeting or passing a school [bus] VEHICLE which is on a different
roadway.

[(e)] (D) The driver of a vehicle need not stop upon meeting or passing a school
[bus] VEHICLE which is stopped without its alternately flashing (red)
WARNING lights actuated, in a loading zone whose location has been approved
by [[[]]either the superintendent of schools in the local school system in which
the school bus loading zone is located, the Maryland State Police, or the local
police department[[]]] [[THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION]]
IN COOPERATION WITH THE STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION
WHERE APPLICABLE.

[[(b) [[No person shall drive a TYPE I school [bus] VEHICLE at a rate of
speed MORE THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR BELOW THE POSTED SPEED
LIMIT (greater than) OR 45 miles per hour WHICHEVER IS GREATER while
it is carrying any passengers (to or from school ].]] NO PERSON MAY DRIVE
A TYPE I SCHOOL VEHICLE CARRYING ANY PASSENGERS AT A
RATE OF SPEED IN EXCESS OF THAT DESIGNATED IN THE
FOLLOWING TABLE:

(B) NO PERSON SHALL DRIVE A TYPE I SCHOOL VEHICLE AT A
RATE OF SPEED GREATER THAN 45 MILES PER HOUR WHILE IT IS
CARRYING ANY PASSENGERS.
