FORTUNE IN BALTIMORE CITY.

[[(E)]] [[(B)]](E) THE AMOUNT OF ANY MERCHANDISE OR CASH
PRIZE AWARD MAY NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT OTHERWISE
PERMITTED IN BALTIMORE CITY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 627
(House Bill 1346)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(b) of Article 87 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to increase
the annual budget of the sheriff of Anne Arundel County to be used for certain
purposes.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 37(b) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Sheriffs,"
subtitle "Compensation and Duties," is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(b) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive an annual salary of
[[$12,500]] $15,000 plus an expense allowance for his personal expenses incidental
to his duties of $2,500. In addition to his salary, the Sheriff shall receive
[$110,500] [[$164,500]] $145,000 annually to be used for salaries of deputies and
any clerical assistance he deems necessary, HOWEVER [[$54,000]] $19,500
SHALL BE USED TO SUPPORT [[SIX (6)]] THREE (3) NEW POSITIONS
AT $6,500 EACH AND $15,000 FOR AN INCREASE IN SALARY FOR
FOURTEEN (14) FULL TIME EMPLOYEES.

The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall be entitled to appoint such number
of deputies, not less than fourteen (14) however, and any clerical assistance
required by the duties of the office. Nothing herein, however, shall be construed to
prevent the Sheriff, in case of emergency, from temporarily deputizing any
able-bodied citizen to assist him in carrying out the duties of his office. All
deputies shall be furnished with automobiles suitable for the performance of their
duties by the County Council, at no expense to the deputies.

The payment of the compensation and expenses provided for herein shall be
made from the general funds of Anne Arundel County, in the same manner as
other general county disbursements are made.
