CHAPTER 582
(House Bill 935)
AN ACT to add new Section 120B to Article 27 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Crimes and
Punishments," to follow immediately after Section 120A thereof, and to be
under the new subtitle [["Designation of Street Level," to require non-private
stairways and elevators to designate the exit to the main street.]] "Exits of
Buildings," to require the posting of a sign or otherwise indicating the levels or
floors most accessible to the exits of the building in certain buildings with three
or more floors, and to provide a penalty.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 120B be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," to follow immediately after Section
120A thereof, to be under the new subtitle [["Designation of Street Level,"]]
"Exits of Buildings," and to read as follows:
[ [DESIGNATION OF STREET LEVEL] ] EXITS OF BUILDINGS
120B.
ALL ELEVATORS AND STAIRWAYS [[INSTALLED HEREAFTER]]
IN ANY BUILDING WITH THREE OR MORE LEVELS OR FLOORS,
EXCEPT THOSE LOCATED IN A DWELLING FOR THE PERSONAL USE
OF A FAMILY, SHALL CLEARLY INDICATE BY SIGN OR OTHERWISE,
THE [[LEVEL OR FLOOR MOST ACCESSIBLE TO THE MAIN STREET
EXIT.]] LEVELS OR FLOORS MOST ACCESSIBLE TO THE EXITS OF
THE BUILDING. ANY PERSON. PARTNERSHIP, CORPORATION, OR
ASSOCIATION WHICH OWNS A STRUCTURE WHICH DOES NOT
COMPLY WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION, SHALL, UPON
CONVICTION, BE GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND FINED NOT
MORE THAN FIFTY ($50) DOLLARS.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect [[July 1, 1973]] January 1, 1974.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 317-37 of Article 41 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title
"Governor-Executive and Administrative Departments," subtitle "26.
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Regulation Compact," subheading
"Title III. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Compact," under
"Article IX. Revenue Bonds"; to permit the Washington Metropolitan Area
Transit Authority to eliminate any requirement of additional authentication or
manual signature of bonds guaranteed by the United States of America.
