Ch. 553                             MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                           1195

399A.

In ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Charles County, [[and]] Calvert County,
AND ST. MARY'S COUNTY, any person who is charged with the care of a
child age seven (7) or less shall not allow that child to be locked or otherwise
confined in any dwelling, building or enclosure, while the person so charged is
absent from the premises unless he provides a reliable person of at least thirteen
(13) years of age to remain with the child in order to protect the child from the
danger of fire, scalding, smoke inhalation or suffocation. Any person who violates
this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined
not more than $1000 or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.

IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, ANY PERSON WHO IS CHARGED
WITH THE CARE OF A CHILD AGE TEN (10) OR LESS SHALL NOT
ALLOW THAT CHILD TO BE LOCKED OR OTHERWISE CONFINED IN
ANY BUILDING, DWELLING OR ENCLOSURE WITH THE EXCEPTION
OF A FENCED YARD WHILE THE PERSON SO CHARGED IS ABSENT
FROM THE PREMISES AND FROM THE SIGHT OF THE PREMISES,
UNLESS HE PROVIDES A RESPONSIBLE AND RELIABLE PERSON OF
AT LEAST THIRTEEN (13) YEARS TO REMAIN WITH THE CHILD IN
ORDER TO PROTECT THE CHILD FROM THE DANGER OF FIRE,
SCALDING, SMOKE INHALATION OR SUFFOCATION. ANY PERSON
WHO VIOLATES THIS SECTION SHALL BE GUILTY OF A
MISDEMEANOR AND, UPON CONVICTION, SHALL BE FINED NOT
MORE THAN $1,000.00 OR IMPRISONED FOR NOT MORE THAN ONE
YEAR, OR BOTH.]]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

HAN ACT to add new Section 14-113(d-1) to Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," subtitle
"Subtitle 14. Size, Weight and Load," to follow immediately after Section
14-113(d) thereof, and to add new Sections 1-106.1, 1-148.1, 1-204.1, and
1-205.1 to Article 66 1/2 of the Code (1970 Replacement Volume), same title,
subtitle "Subtitle 1. Words and Phrases Defined," to follow immediately after
Sections 1-106, 1-148, 1-204, and 1-205 thereof, respectively; to exempt certain
recreational vehicles, such as truck campers, travel trailers, camping trailers and
motor homes, from any State or local restrictions imposed against the operation
of vehicles of certain weight on roads and highways, and to provide for certain
definitions.]] An Act to add new Sections 1-106.1. 1-148.1. 1-204.1. and 1-205.1
to Article 66 1/2 of the Code (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle
Laws," subtitle "Subtitle 1. Words and Phrases Defined," to follow immediately
after Sections 1-106, 1-148, 1-204 and 1-205 thereof, respectively: to define
certain vehicles for the purposes of this Article.
