CHAPTER 551
(House Bill 566)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(e) of Article 64A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume), title "Merit
System," to revise the eligibility requirements for classified employees in need
of an extension of leave with pay because of illness or injury, and to correct the
language therein.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 37(e) of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume), title "Merit System," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(e) In case any employee who has been (continuously 1 in the State service for
not less than ten years shall suffer an illness or injury which would result in his
absence from duty for a period of time exceeding that provided in subsection (a)
with pay, such employee may, with the approval of the head of the department or
agency of the State in which he is employed, appeal to the Board of Public Works
for an extension of leave with pay; and the [said I Board, after being satisfied as to
the merits of the case, may authorize an extension of leave with pay, provided that
such extension of time shall not exceed one year, including the leave allowed under
subsection (a).

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 552
(House Bill 568)

AN ACT to [[add new Section 399C to]] repeal and re-enact, with amendments.
Section 399A of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title and subtitle "Crimes and
Punishments," subheading "Minors-Care and Protection of," [[to follow
immediately after Section 399B thereof,]] to provide that in Anne Arundel ,
Charles. Calvert and St. Mary's County any person charged with the care of a
child aged [[ten]] seven years or less shall not allow that child to be confined
in certain places while the person so charged is absent from [[and out of sight
of]] the premises unless a reliable person of a certain age is provided for certain
purposes, and generally relating to the care and protection of certain children in
certain counties [[Anne Arundel County]].

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 399A of [[new Section 399C be and it is hereby
added toll Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement
Volume and 1972 Supplement), title and subtitle "Crimes and Punishments,"
subheading "Minors-Care and Protection of," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments." [[to follow immediately after Section 399B
thereof, and]] to read as follows:
