[The Sheriff of Calvert County shall receive a sum of money not
to exceed seventy-five cents a day for keeping and boarding each pris-
oner in the county jail and shall also receive twenty-five dollars, for
conveying to the State Penitentiary or to any other place of punish-
ment situated beyond the limits of said county, every person sen-
tenced thereto by the Circuit Court for Calvert County, or by any jus-
tice of the peace for said county.
The Sheriff of Calvert County shall be entitled to charge and re-
ceive the sum of three dollars for his attendance at each case before
a Justice of the Peace in said County.]
Sec. 2. And he it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

(House Bill 1275)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(z) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement
Volume, 1971 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensa-
tion and Duties," to allow the County Commissioners of Calvert
County to furnish an office for the sheriff of Calvert County and
pay certain necessary expenses for his office.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(z) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1969 Replacement Volume, 1971 Supplement,), title "Sheriffs,"
subtitle "Compensation and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
37.
(z) The county commissioners of the several counties and the
mayor and city council of Baltimore City shall furnish an office for
the sheriff and pay the necessary expenses for telephones, stationery
and for other purposes. Unless otherwise provided in this section,
the said county commissioners and mayor and city council of Balti-
more City shall provide for the necessary traveling expenses of the
sheriff for conveying prisoners to any penal institution in the State
and other necessary traveling expenses. [This subsection shall not
apply to Calvert County.]
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
