2656 County Local Laws
IN A 12 MONTH PROBATIONARY STATUS UPON MEETING THE
FOLLOWING SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS.
1. APPROVED HOWARD COUNTY FIRE SERVICE MEDICAL
AND PHYSICAL STANDARDS. NO WAIVERS ON MEDICAL OR
PHYSICAL STANDARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED IN THE AREA OF
WEIGHT, VISION, HEARING, AGILITY, COORDINATION, AND EN-
DURANCE.
2. CLEAR POLICE AND CREDIT RECORDS.
3. ELIGIBILITY OR POSSESSION OF MARYLAND CLASS "B"
DRIVER'S LICENSE.
UPON COMPLETION OF BASIC FORMAL FIREFIGHTER AND
AMBULANCE ATTENDANT COURSES, POSSESSION OF MARY-
LAND CLASS "B" DRIVER'S LICENSE, AND SATISFACTORY COM-
PLETION OF PROBATIONARY REQUIREMENTS IS APPOINTED
TO FIREFIGHTER POSITION.
(92) FIREFIGHTER FIRST CLASS
GRADUATION FROM A RECOGNIZED HIGH SCHOOL OR GEN-
ERAL EQUIVALENCE TEST WITH A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
OF 20 YEARS OF AGE. MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
2 YEARS OF PAID FIREFIGHTER EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING 1
YEAR AS A HOWARD COUNTY PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER.
SATISFACTORILY COMPLETED FIREFIGHTING, AMBULANCE,
AND RESCUE TRAINING COURSES AS PRESCRIBED BY THE FIRE
ADVISORY BOARD. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, POSSESSION OF
MARYLAND CLASS "B" DRIVER'S LICENSE.
(93) FIREFIGHTER TECHNICIAN/SERGEANT
GRADUATION FROM RECOGNIZED HIGH SCHOOL OR GEN-
ERAL EQUIVALENCE TEST WITH A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
OF 22 YEARS OF AGE. MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
4 YEARS OF PAID FIREFIGHTER SERVICE EXPERIENCE, IN-
CLUDING 1 YEAR AS A HOWARD COUNTY PROBATIONARY FIRE-
FIGHTER. SATISFACTORILY COMPLETED FIREFIGHTING, AM-
BULANCE, AND RESCUE TRAINING COURSES AS PRESCRIBED
BY THE FIRE ADVISORY BOARD. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: POS-
SESSION OF MARYLAND CLASS "B" DRIVER'S LICENSE.
(94) FIREFIGHTER LIEUTENANT
GRADUATION FROM RECOGNIZED HIGH SCHOOL OR GEN-
ERAL EQUIVALENCE TEST WITH A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT OF
26 YEARS OF AGE. MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED 8
YEARS OF PAID FIREFIGHTER SERVICE EXPERIENCE, INCLUD-
ING 1 YEAR AS A HOWARD COUNTY PROBATIONARY FIRE-
FIGHTER. SATISFACTORILY COMPLETED FIREFIGHTING, AM-
BULANCE AND RESCUE TRAINING COURSES AS PRESCRIBED BY
THE FIRE ADVISORY BOARD AND HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COM-
PLETED 12 COLLEGE SEMESTER HOURS IN FIRE TECHNOLOGY
COURSE WORK. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: POSSESSION OF MARY-
LAND CLASS "B" DRIVER'S LICENSE.
