No. 3
(Senate Joint Resolution 20)
Senate Joint Resolution commending Frank Robinson for his accom-
plishments in playing baseball and his contributions to the Balti-
more Orioles baseball team.
The members of the General Assembly of Maryland take pleasure
in commending Frank Robinson for his accomplishments in playing
baseball and his contributions to the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.
It is a commentary on his accomplishments to note that he is the
only player to have been voted the Most Valuable Player award in
both the American and National Leagues.
He has achieved distinction as a former winner of the Triple
Crown of batting. He currently has five hundred and three (503)
career home runs and was the thirteenth (13th) player to hit more
than five hundred (500) home runs.
He has made invaluable contributions to the Orioles through his
leadership and sportsman-like attitude.
During his six year tenure with the Baltimore Orioles, Frank
Robinson led the team to four American League pennants and two
World Series championships. In these same years, he averaged
thirty (30) home runs and ninety-one (91) runs-batted-in per
season.
His efforts have led to his suffering physical injury. These injuries
caused him to be incapacitated for nearly an entire season. He has
been hit by a pitched ball one hundred and seventy-six (176) times
while playing in the major leagues, including nine (9) times during
the 1971 season.
