1540 Laws of Maryland [Ch. 565
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 50 of Article 77A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1969 Replacement Volume), title "Higher Education," subtitle
"Scholarships," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
50.
Any college student or other person, who is under twenty-one
years of age, and eligible for or receiving benefits from any State
scholarship, loan, tuition fee grant, remission of fixed charges, [or]
fellowship, Federal student loan 'program, or student loan program
conducted by an institution of higher education, under this article,
may for the purpose of obtaining such benefits, execute notes, con-
tracts or make such agreements as may be necessary to obtain such
benefits in the same manner and with the same effect as though
such person were twenty-one years of age, and shall be barred from
asserting the defense of disability of infancy in any action brought
by or on behalf of the State, or any agency thereof against the
recipient of such benefits, with respect thereto.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

AN ACT to add new Section 14(3)(j) to Article 73B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland, (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Pen-
sions," subtitle "In General," to follow immediately after Section
14(3)(i) thereof and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 16 of said article, title and subtitle of the Code; to add
new Section 198(3) (i) 198(3) (J) to Article 77 of the Code (1969
Replacement Volume), title "Public Education," subtitle "Chapter
17. Teachers' Retirement System," to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 198(3)(h) 198 (3) (I) thereof and to repeal and re-enact, with
amendments, Section 205 of said article, title and subtitle of the
Code; and to add new Section 56(3) (j) to Article 88B of the Code
(1969 Replacement Volume), title "State Police," subtitle "State
Police Retirement System," to follow immediately after Section
56(3)(i) thereof and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 59 of said article, title and subtitle of the Code; to permit
the boards of trustees of the several retirement systems to write up
the book value of the common stock portfolios of their systems and
to provide a special account in which one-half of such write-up shall
be accumulated.
