Board of Parole, the Division of Parole and Probation established
pursuant to Section 204D of this article, the Sundry Claims Board,
[the Maryland Traffic Safety Commission,] the Maryland State Po-
lice established pursuant to Section 204D of this article, the Advisory
Board for Correction, Parole and Probation established pursuant to
Section 204E of this article, and such other agencies, boards, com-
missions, councils, offices, or units of government as may hereafter
pursuant to law be declared to be part of the Department of Public
Safety and Correctional Services.
(b) The Maryland Traffic Safety Commission is, as of July 1,
1972, abolished, AND EVERY CONSIDERATION SHALL BE EX-
TENDED FOR THE PLACEMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR DUE TO HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE
STATE UNLESS HE CHOOSES TO RETIRE.

The Maryland Traffic Safety Commission is hereby created as
part of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
The Commission shall be composed of not more than eighteen (18)
members to be appointed by the Secretary of Public Safety and Cor-
rectional Services, with the approval of the Governor. Terms of
members shall be for six (6) years, but of the members first ap-
pointed: one third shall be designated to hold office for two years,
one third for four years, and one third for six years, from June 1st,
1941. Members appointed to fill vacancies occurring during any term
shall hold office for the unexpired portion of the term. The Secretary
of Public Safety and Correctional Services, with the approval of
the Governor shall designate one member to act as chairman. No
member shall receive any compensation for his services. The Com-
mission may adopt rules to govern its proceedings.]

(a) The functions of the Commission shall be to promote traffic
safety on the streets and highways and in other public places
throughout the State of Maryland; to coordinate the activities of
public and private agencies interested in or affected by the problems
of traffic safety; and to assist such agencies and to augment their
activities by study, education and information.
(b) To carry out its functions, the Commission may require any
State, county, municipal or other public agency of this State to
supply information and assistance for the Commission in the per-
formance of its duties; may cooperate with private business, edu-
cational and charitable organizations and private individuals inter-
ested in traffic safety; and may appoint subcommittees in the counties
and municipalities of the State to assist in its work.]
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all books, papers, files,
records, furniture, fixtures, and other personal property owned by
or in the custody, as of June 30, 1972, of the Maryland Traffic
Safety Commission, shall be transferred to and be in the ownership
or custody of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional
Services.
