AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 10(b)
of Article 50 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume and 1970 Supplement) title "Joint Obligations and
Joint Tenancy," subtitle "Interparty Agreements," providing that
any person or persons may create a joint tenancy or a tenancy
by the entireties without the use of a straw man as an inter-
mediate grantee-grantor, and providing that such creations,
whether made before or after this Act, are ratified, confirmed,
and declared valid as having created the type of concurrent owner-
ship that the conveyance purports to create.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 10 (b) of Article 50 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1968 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement) title "Joint
Obligations and Joint Tenancy," subtitle "Interparty Agreements,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and
to read as follows:

(b) This section shall be construed to authorize a conveyance of
any interest in real or leasehold property [(l) by husband and wife
as tenants by the entireties, as joint tenants, or as tenants in com-
mon to the husband alone, the wife alone, or to the husband and
wife as tenants by the entireties, as joint tenants, or as tenants
in common, and (2) by either husband or wife alone, or as a tenant
by the entireties, a joint tenant, or as a tenant in common to the
other spouse alone, or to the husband and wife as tenants by the
entireties, as joint tenants, or as tenants in: common.] by one or
more persons, as grantors, to themselves alone, or to himself or
themselves and another person or persons, as grantees, in joint
tenancy or tenancy by the entireties without the use of a straw
man as cm intermediate grantee-grantor. All conveyances described
in this subsection, whether made before or after [July 1, 1970]
the effective date hereof, are ratified, confirmed, and declared valid
as having created the type of concurrent ownership that the con-
veyance purports to create.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.
