(House Bill 649)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5(h) of
Article 38 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Supplement),
title "Fines and Forfeitures," amending the laws concerning the
fines and forfeited recognizances paid to local law libraries in order
to amend the formula for these payments in St. Mary's County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5(h) of Article 38 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1970 Supplement), title "Fines and Forfeitures," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(h) In St. Mary's County, [if in any year the said payments to
the court library of one-half the fine imposed and recognizances for-
feited is less than two thousand dollars ($2,000.00), the County
Commissioners thereof shall pay to the clerk of the court, for the use
of the library, whatever amount may be necessary to bring to two
thousand dollars ($2,000.00) in the aggregate the total amount to be
paid to said library during that year under the provisions of this
section.] the County Commissioners are authorized to pay to the
Clerk of the Court, for the use of the Library an amount up to but
not to exceed $2,000.00 (two thousand dollars) in addition to the
fines imposed and recognizances forfeited, during any given year.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (b) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to increase
the annual budget of the sheriff of Anne Arundel County to be
used for a certain purpose.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(b) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1970 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and
Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

(b) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive an annual
salary of $12,500 plus an expense allowance for his personal expenses
