AGENCIES RESPONSIBLE FOR DRUG ABUSE EDUCATION
AND CONTROL.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 54
(Senate Bill 183)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 13-104
(a) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970
Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," subtitle "Subtitle 13.
Inspection of Used Vehicles and Warnings for Defective Equip-
ment," to allow all CERTAIN police officers of the State CITIES
AND MUNICIPALITIES to issue warnings for defective equip-
ment and mechanisms as provided for in this section.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 13-104 (a) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," sub-
title "Subtitle 13. Inspection of Used Vehicles and Warnings for
Defective Equipment," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

13-104.

(a) Whenever any [member of the State Police or any officer of
a county POLICE department, or any officer of a police department
of a city with a population in excess of 5,000 persons,] police officer
OR MUNICIPALITY observes that a motor vehicle registered in
Maryland is being operated with equipment and mechanisms which
apparently do not meet the standards therefor as promulgated by the
Department, he shall stop the operator of the vehicle and issue to
him a warning of defective equipment and mechanisms. The warn-
ing directs the owner of the vehicle to have the equipment and
mechanisms which are indicated on the warning as apparently de-
fective corrected at a place of the owner's choosing within a period
of 10 days from the date of issuance of the warning and to forward
to the Division verification by an approved facility, signed and dated
as required for a certificate, that on a date subsequent to the issuance
of the warning the equipment and mechanisms so indicated comply
with the standards prescribed by this subtitle.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.
