Supplements), Title 1, "Administration," Subtitle 2, "Personnel,"
Article III, "Employees' Retirement," to follow immediately after
Section 1-241 thereof, providing certain pension benefits to widows of
former County employees, and matters generally related thereto.

Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Sections 2-3.1 and
9-65.1 of the Anne Arundel County Code (1957 Edition and 1961 Cumula-
tive Supplement), Chapter 2, "Administration," Article I, "In General,"
(BEING ALSO SET FORTH AS SECTION 270B OF APPENDIX D,
"PENSIONS" OF SAID CODE (1967 EDITION AND SUPPLE-
MENTS)); and Chapter 9, "Finance and Taxation," Article IV, "Pur-
chases and Expenditures," (BEING ALSO SET FORTH AS SECTION
9-65.1 OF APPENDIX D, "PENSIONS," OF SAID CODE (1967 EDI-
TION AND SUPPLEMENTS)) respectively, be and they are hereby
repealed.

Section 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new Section
1-242 be, and it is hereby added to the Anne Arundel County Code (1967
Edition and Supplements), Title 1, "Administration," Subtitle 2, "Per-
sonnel," Article III, "Employees' Retirement," to follow immediately after
Section 1-241 thereof, and to read as follows:

Section 1-242

Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections 1-221 through 1-241, in-
clusive, of this Article, a pension shall be paid to the widow of any former
county employee who had been employed by the county for not less than
twenty-five (25) years, in an amount not exceeding one hundred and
twenty-five dollars ($125) each month. If any such widow is receiving
Social Security or retirement benefits or payments under the provisions
of any State or Federal law, the monthly aggregate amount of such bene-
fits or payments shall be deducted from one hundred and twenty-five dollars
($125), and the monthly payment from the county then shall not exceed
the difference between these two sums. Any such pension shall be paid
only upon application therefor, and an annual levy shall be made for such
sum as may be necessary to make said payments. The said pension pay-
ments shall continue until the death or remarriage of any such widow.

Section 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Ordinance
is hereby declared to be an emergency ordinance and necessary for the

immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, welfare and

property, and being passed by the affirmative vote of five (5) members
of the County Council, the
same shall take effect from the date it becomes
law.
SHALL TAKE EFFECT FORTY-FIVE (45) DAYS FROM THE
DATE IT BECOMES LAW.
