202(d) thereof and enacting new Section 202(d) to stand in place
of the Section so repealed, providing for the compensation of Council-
men and the manner of changing the compensation.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the County Council of Howard County,
Maryland,
(two-thirds of the members elected to the Council concurring)
That Section 202(d) of the Howard County Charter be and it is hereby
repealed, and that new Section 202 (d) be and it is hereby enacted to stand
in the place of the section repealed, the same if adopted by the legal and
qualified voters of the County as herein provided to become a part of the
Howard County Charter, and to read as follows :

202 (d) Compensation

Councilmen shall receive compensation of not less than Six Thousand
Dollars ($6,000.00) per
annum. The compensation of Councilmen may be
changed by an affirmative vote of not less than two thirds of the members
of the Council. Any increase or
decrease in compensation which becomes

law during one term of office shall not become effective before the next

term.

EACH MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL, EXCEPT THE CHAIRMAN,
SHALL BE PAID FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC DUTIES
UNDER THIS CHARTER THE SUM OF SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS
($6,000.00) PER ANNUM. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL SHALL
BE PAID FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC DUTIES UNDER
THIS CHARTER THE SUM OF SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($6,500.00) PER ANNUM. SUCH SALARY SHALL BE IN
FULL COMPENSATION FOR ALL SERVICES REQUIRED BY THIS
CHARTER TO BE PERFORMED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE COUN-
CIL, BUT SHALL NOT PRECLUDE REASONABLE AND NECESSARY
EXPENSES AS MAY BE PROVIDED IN THE BUDGET.

Section 2. And be it further enacted by the County Council of Howard
County, Maryland,
That the foregoing Section hereby proposed as an
amendment to the Howard County Charter, at the next ensuing general
election to be held in this State, shall be submitted to the legal and qualified
voters of Howard County for their adoption or rejection in pursuance of
directions contained in Article X of the Howard County Charter, and at
the said general election the vote on the said proposed amendment to the
Charter shall be by ballot, and upon each ballot there shall be printed the
words "For the Charter Amendment" and "Against the Charter Amend-
ment" as now provided by law, and immediately after said election all
returns shall be made to the Executive of the vote for and against said
proposed amendments, as directed by the said Article X of the Howard
County Charter, and further proceedings had in accordance with said
Article X.

This Act having been approved by two-thirds (2/3) of the members
of the County Council, stands enacted this 6th day of July, 1970 in accord-
ance with the provisions of Article X, Section 1001 of the Howard County
Charter.
