but such compensation shall be reduced by any payments made pur-
suant to the Workmen's Compensation Law.
(c) In any suit or claim or criminal charge brought against the
principal or teacher because of the intervention, as provided for
in subsection (a) herein by a parent or other claimant of one of
the combatants, the county board of education or Baltimore City
board of school commissioners, as the case may be, shall provide
legal counsel for, or may provide reimbursement for the reasonable
expense of legal defense of any criminal charge arising therefrom
in cases the board shall deem appropriate, for the principal or
teacher and shall save him harmless from any award or decree
against him.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted,, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971

CHAPTER 600
(House Bill 1180)
AN ACT to repeal Sections 33 and 58 of Article 88B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "State
Police," subtitle "Pensions" and "State Police Retirement System,"
respectively, repealing the sections providing for the loss of pen-
sion benefits when a State policeman commits a crime.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 33 and 58 of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "State Police," subtitle
"Pensions" and "State Police Retirement System," respectively, are
hereby repealed and to read as follows:
[33.
The Superintendent of the Department of Maryland State Police
may, in his discretion, reduce or discontinue relief granted to any
former member receiving a pension who shall be convicted in any
court of any crime and who was sentenced therefor to serve a year
or more in a jail or prison.]
[58.
Any member or any retired member upon conviction of any crime
by a court of competent jurisdiction and imposition of a sentence of
confinement in a jail or prison for one or more years, shall forfeit to
the Retirement System all benefits under the provisions of this sub-
title to which he is or may be entitled, together with twenty-five per-
centum (25%) of all contributions, with regular interest thereon,
made by him.]
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.
