(House Bill 487)
AN ACT to add new Section 59A-1 to Article 41 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume) (1971 REPLACE-
MENT VOLUME), title "Governor—Executive and Administra-
tive Departments," subtitle "1. The Executive Department," sub-
heading "Governor," to follow immediately after Section 59A
thereof, to provide a cash benefit to the surviving family of a law
enforcement officer who is killed in the line of duty.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 59A-1 be and it is hereby added to Article 41 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume) (1971
REPLACEMENT VOLUME), title "Governor—Executive and
Administrative Departments," subtitle "1. The Executive Depart-
ment," subheading "Governor," to follow immediately after Section
59A thereof, and to read as follows:
59A-1.
(a) The sum of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) THE
SUM OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($15,000.00) LESS
ANY LUMP SUM DEATH BENEFIT, EXCLUSIVE OF ANY RE-
TURN OF CONTRIBUTIONS, PAYABLE BY THE STATE OR
ANY POLITICAL SUBDIVISION. THIS SUM SHALL BE AD-
DITIONAL TO ANY BENEFIT UNDER WORKMEN'S COM-
PENSATION shall be paid to the surviving spouse or children of
any law enforcement officer of the State or of any political subdivi-
sion of the State who is killed in the performance of his duties. THIS
SUM SHALL BE IN ADDITION TO ANY WORKMEN'S COM-
PENSATION BENEFITS.
(b) The payments hereinabove provided for shall be made out
of funds which the Governor may appropriate for that purpose in the
State budget.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 540
(House Bill 504)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, subsections (a)
and (m) of Section 251A of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments," subtitle "I. Crimes and Punishments," subheading "Gam-
ing," to permit the operation of bingo games by certain golf or
country clubs in Worcester County and to provide that the
provisions relating to bingo in Worcester County shall apply
county-wide.
