AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 70-19 (a)
of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replace-
ment Volume, 1970 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitle "Juvenile
Causes," providing that the prohibition on confining a child
(except a delinquent child) in an institution or other facility
designed or operated for the benefit of delinquent children shall
not apply to group homes or "halfway houses" FACILITIES
DESIGNATED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF JUVE-
NILE SERVICES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND
MENTAL HYGIENE.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 70-19 (a) of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume, 1970 Supplement), title
"Courts," subtitle "Juvenile Causes," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
70-19.
(a) If a child is found to be neglected, delinquent, in need of
supervision, mentally handicapped, or dependent, the court may make
disposition as most suited to the physical, mental, and moral welfare
of the child; but no child (except a delinquent child) may be con-
fined in an institution or other facility designed or operated for the
benefit of delinquent children [.] , provided that this prohibition
shall not apply to group homes or "halfway houses" FACILITIES
DESIGNATED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE
SERVICES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MEN-
TAL HYGIENE.
