574) On the Back of the aforegoing Commission was thus Endorsed Viz.t Maryland fs.t 27.th May 1755 Then Came before me the Subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the Provincial Court the within Named George Steuart and Qualified himself as Deputy Secretary of the Said Province by taking the Several Oaths Prescribed by Law and Subscribing the Abjuration and Test as also taking the Oath of Deputy Secretary 3 J Hepburn Recorded 27.th May 1755 Which said Oath is in the following Words Viz.t Exam.d Maryland fs.t I hereby Certifie that on the 27.th Day of May Seventeen hundred and fifty five Came before me the subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the Provincial Court George Steuart of the City of Annapolis Esquire and took the Several Oaths Appointed by Act of assembly of this Province to be taken to the Government made repeated and Subscribed the Oath of Abjuration and Test and also took the Oath of Deputy Secretary of this Province in the words following to wit; " You George Steuart do Swear that you will be true and faithful to the " Right Honourable Frederick Lord Baron of Baltimore the true & " Absolute Lord and Proprietary of this province and him and them " and his and their Rights Royal Jurisdictions Signiories and " all and Every of them into and over the said Province and Islands " thereunto belonging will at all times defend and Maintain to the " Utmost of your Power; And will never Accept of Nor Execute any " Place office or Employment within this province anyway concerning " or relating to the Government of the said Province from any Person " or Authority but by from or under a lawful Authority derived or to " be derived from time to time from his said Lordship or his Heirs " Lords and Proprietarys of the said Province under his and " their hands and Seals at Arms; You will Serve him faithfully " as Deputy Secretary in the said province To none will you " Wittingly or Willingly delay or deny Right in what belongeth " to your office or offices to do, True Records you will keep of " Judgments and all other Matters to be by you Recorded " without Falsification or Corruption for fear favour or Malice " of any Person whatsoever to the best of your ability and " Understanding" So help you God Certifyed by J Hepburn 3 Recorded 27.th May 1755 |
