Ex.d                     Know all Men by these Presents that I
       John Roberts of Ann Arundel County Planter for and in
       Consideration of the Sum of Two Hundred and fifty
       Pounds Currency and Eight Thousand Pounds of Tob.o
       to me in Hand paid by William Thornton of same
       County Merchant the receipt whereof I do hereby
       Acknowledge and thereof do Acquit and Discharge the
       said William Thornton his Heirs Executors Adm.rs
       and Assigns have Bargained Sold and Delivered and
       by these Presents Do Bargain, Sell and Deliver unto
       the said William one Negro Woman called Parthena one
       ditto called Hagar one Negro Boy called Frank one ditto
       called Sam one ditto called Harry one Negro Girl called
       Dinah with their Increase also part of a Tract or parcel
       of Land called Birkheads Chance containing forty
       Acres lying and being between Lyons Creek and Pig
       Point in said County, Also sixteen head of Hoggs
       marked with an Upper Keele and an under Keele, Six
       Cows and two Yearlings marked as the Hoggs, one Black
       Horse, one new Cart two Feather Beds and Furniture
       and all the Crop of Corn & Tobacco that is or shall be
       on any of the Plantations of the said John with all my
       Right Title Interest and Claim in and to the said
       Mortgaged Premisses, and I do hereby Covenant and Agree
       to and with the said William to Warrant and forever
       Defend the said Mortgaged Premisses to him his Heirs
       Executors Adm.rs and Assigns against all manner of
       Persons whatsoever Provided always and it is
       the true Intent and meaning of these Presents that if
       the above mentioned John Roberts his Heirs Executors
       Adm.rs or Assigns do and shall at all times when
       required full and faithfully Comply with and truly
