Court; and all of said notes and transcripts of testimony may be
destroyed by the State's Attorney upon his application to and written
authority of said Court first obtained.

28.

Any [stenographer] reporter, as aforesaid, who shall violate, or
permit to be violated, in any manner, any of the provisions of Sec-
tions [25-28] 25-27 as to secrecy, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than five nor more
than five hundred dollars, or be confined in jail for a period of not
more than one year.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 88
(House Bill 1043)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(h) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement
Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties,"
increasing the salary of the sheriff of Charles County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (h) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1969 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensa-
tion and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(h) The Sheriff of Charles County shall receive an annual salary
of [nine thousand dollars ($9,000)] fourteen thousand dollars
($14,000).
The board of public safety of Charles County shall, pur-
suant to the authority given them, appoint such deputy sheriffs as
they may deem necessary. The books of the Sheriff shall be audited
annually, and copies shall be published by the County Commissioners
in local newspapers.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the Sheriff of Charles
County in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions
of this Act shall take effect with the next term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
