whom shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of
St. Mary's County, and all of whom shall reside in St. Mary's
County and be resident tax payers of said county and qualified
voters thereof. The term of each of the three members shall be six
years or until their successors are appointed and have qualified, ex-
cept that the first Commissioner named by said Board of County
Commissioners shall serve for two years, the second for four years
and the third for six years from the date of their appointment, and
as the term of each Commissioner expires, his successor shall be
appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Mary's
County. Any vacancy in the personnel of the Commission shall be
filled by appointment by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Mary's County for the unexpired term.]

157.

(a) For the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this sub-
title, the sanitary districts created hereafter shall be under the
jurisdiction of a Commission of seven persons. Each member of
the Commission shall be appointed by the Board of County Com-
missioners of St. Mary's County as follows: one member from each
of the first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth election districts, one
member from the second and ninth election districts, and one
member from the fourth and fifth election districts. Each member
shall reside in the election district he represents, be a resident tax-
payer of the County and be a qualified voter. The members of the
Commission shall be appointed for a three year term and shall serve
until their successors are appointed and have qualified. Those per-
sons serving as members of the Commission immediately prior to
the effective date of this Act shall continue to serve in their re-
spective positions until the expiration of their terms. On the effec-
tive date of this Act, the County Commissioners shall appoint two
new members for a period of two years and two new members for
a period of three years from election districts unrepresented at the
time of appointment. As the term of each Commissioner expires,
his successor shall be appointed by the Board of County Commis-
sioners of St. Mary's County. Any vacancy in the personnel of the
Commission shall be filled by appointment by the Board of County
Commissioners of St. Mary's County for the unexpired term.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 381
(House Bill 1395)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 76 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edition,
being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Fire Companies," to establish
a minimum appropriation for volunteer fire companies in St.
Mary's County.
