The County Commissioners shall allow said Sheriff such funds
as shall be necessary to compensate a matron and a cook at the
Kent County jail.

The County Commissioners may authorize such additional depu-
ties as may be necessary and shall fix their compensation upon their
appointment by the Sheriff.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the Sheriff
in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this
Act concerning the salary of the Sheriff shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 219
(House Bill 1218)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 707(j)
of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Natural Resources," subtitle "Oysters and Clams,"
to provide for a temporary closing of natural oyster bars in
Dorchester and Kent counties and for the closing of natural
oyster bars in Queen Anne's County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 707(j) of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Supplement), title "Natural Resources," subtitle "Oysters
and Clams," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

707.

(j) The Department is authorized to close without the holding
of a public hearing and for a temporary period not to exceed forty-
five days any natural oyster bar in [Queen Anne's,] Dorchester
or Kent counties with the approval of the appropriate committee of
oystermen established under the provisions of subsection (g) of this
section. The Department is authorized to close without the holding
of a public hearing for a temporary period any natural oyster bar in
Queen Anne's county with the approval of the appropriate committee
of oystermen established under the provisions of subsection (g) of
this section.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
