CHAPTER 220
(House Bill 1267)

AN ACT to provide for the establishment of the Maryland-Virginia
boundary line eastward from Assateague Island.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of
Maryland,
That the boundary line between Maryland and Virginia
eastward from Assateague Island shall be, and hereby is, established
and described as follows:

Beginning at a point on the Maryland-Virginia Line located on
Assateague Island designated as station "Pope Island Life Saving
Station (1907)" denned by Latitude 38 degrees 01 minutes 36.93
seconds and Longitude 75 degrees 14 minutes 47.105 seconds; thence
running N 84 degrees 05 minutes 43.5 seconds E (true)—1,100.00
feet to station "Atlantic"; thence due East (true) to the Maryland-
Virginia Jurisdictional Limit.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 221
(House Bill 1269)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 74 of
Article 16 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement
Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Chancery," subtitle
"Adoption," to provide for reference to long-term care short of
adoption in the statement of consent to accompany petitions for
adoption.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 74 of Article 16 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Chancery,"
subtitle "Adoption," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

74.

Every petition for adoption shall be accompanied by written state-
ments of consent, subscribed and sworn to before a person authorized
by law to administer an oath, as specified in this section, except that
the court may in its discretion permit any petition to be filed with-
out a necessary consent if such consent is added to the petition be-
fore the time set for hearings. However, the court may grant a
petition for adoption without any of the consents hereinafter speci-
fied, if, after a hearing the court finds that such consent or con-
sents are withheld contrary to the best interests of the child.
