37(b).
The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive an annual salary
of $12,500 plus an expense allowance for his personal expenses inci-
dental to his duties of $2,500. In addition to his salary, the Sheriff
shall receive [$87,500] $100,500 annually to be used for salaries of
deputies and any clerical assistance he deems necessary.
The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall be entitled to appoint
such number of deputies, not less than [twelve (12)] fourteen (Ik)
however, and any clerical assistance required by the duties of the
office. Nothing herein, however, shall be construed to prevent the
Sheriff, in case of emergency, from temporarily deputizing any able-
bodied citizen to assist him in carrying out the duties of his office.
All deputies shall be furnished with automobiles suitable for the
performance of their duties by the County [Commissioners] Council,
at no expense to the deputies.
The payment of the compensation and expenses provided for herein
shall be made from the general funds of Anne Arundel County,
in the same manner as other general county disbursements are made.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 12-15
(a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County
(1963 Edition and 1967 Supplement, as amended, being Article
17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland) title "Prince
George's County," subtitle "Court Officers," providing for a method
of determining salaries for law clerks.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 12-15 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1963 Edition and 1967 Supplement, as amended,
being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland)
title "Prince George's County," subtitle "Court Officers" be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows :
12-15. Court Officers.
(a) Appointment; compensation. In Prince George's County the
court officers appointed pursuant to Article 4, Section 9 of the Con-
stitution of Maryland, shall be law clerks, bailiffs, court criers, and
doorkeepers. The law clerks shall receive an annual compensation
[of not in excess of six thousand ($6,000.) dollars each.] as the
County Commissioners of Prince George's County may from time
to time prescribe after consultation with the court. The bailiffs,
