as near as practical to the floor furnace location, but preferably not
in a bedroom. A clear and unobstructed passageway to the floor furnace
of at least 30 inches high (to the bottom of joists) by 30 inches wide
must be provided from the point of access. The sides and bottom of the
passageway shall be lined with concrete or concrete block to extend 4
inches above the ground level and shall connect with the concrete sides
of the floor furnace pit (see 4.9.8). The bottom of the passageway may
be covered with 2 inches of crushed stone, gravel or similar material
in lieu of concrete, if desired. Access to the floor furnace through an
opening in the foundation wall will be acceptable where the clearance
between the bottom of the floor joists and the general ground level is
not less than 36 inches. The access openings in the foundation wall must
be at least 24 inches wide and 30 inches high and the entrance protected
against snow."

the entire subsection.

(43)    Subsection 4.21.4. Mounting of Unlisted Appliances: Delete
this entire subsection.

(44)    Subsection 4.22.1. Independent Gas Piping: Change the title
to "Gas Piping" by deleting the word "Independent", delete as written
and substitute the following: "Gas piping serving a heating appliance
may also serve a cooling appliance when the heating and cooling ap-
liance cannot be operated simultaneously."

(45)    Subsection 4.22.4. Clearance for Indoor Installation: Delete
as written and substitute the following:

(a) Listed air conditioning appliances installed in unconfined spaces
shall be installed with clearances not less than specified in Line 1 of
Table 11 except as provided in 4.22.4 (a) 1,2 and 3.

1.    Air conditioning appliances listed for installation at lesser clear-
ances than specified in Table 11 may be installed in accordance with
their listing and the manufacturer's instructions.

2.    Air conditioning appliances listed for installation at greater clear-
ances than specified in Table 11 shall be installed in accordance with
their listing and the manufacturer's instructions unless protected as spe-
cified in 4.22.4 (a) 3. However, when clearances are specified to provide
access for service, they shall not be reduced.

3.    Air conditioning appliances installed in unconfined spaces (see
3.4.3a) may be installed with reduced clearances to combustible material
provided the combustible material is protected as described in Table 12.
