2336                               Municipal Charters

Charter Amendment No. 12-69

Amendment No. 10

(An amendment to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 27
Paragraph 2 of the Charter to permit the citizens of Glenarden, Maryland
to vote for six (6) councilmen in each election of councilmen.) (421 voted
for the amendment, 214 voted against it.)

Registration, Nominations, Elections

27. (Nominations) Persons may be nominated for elective office in
the Town by filing a certificate of nomination at the office of the Board of
Supervisors of Election on or before the second Monday in April next
preceding the Town election. No person shall file for nomination to more
than one elective Town public office or hold more than one elective Town or
public office at any one time.

Any person desiring to become a candidate for Mayor or Councilman
shall at least ten days before election, file or cause to be filed with one of
the Supervisors of Elections a petition stating that he or she is a candidate
for office, and reciting the numbers of the liber and folio where the deed or
contract referred to in the preceding section is recorded among the Land
Records of Prince George's County, which petition shall be signed by such
candidate, and endorsed by at least fifteen of the persons entitled to vote in
the next Town election. Upon the filing of such petitions, the Mayor and
Council shall print such persons' names upon the ballot with a square
opposite each, the names of the candidates for mayor to be in one group
and appearing in alphabetical order, and with the instruction to the voters
to "vote for one," and the candidates for councilman to be in another group
with the names appearing in alphabetical order and with the instruction
to the voters to "vote for six."

Concerning a Petition for Annexation

Whereas, we, the Mayor and Council of Greensboro, have received
a Petition for Annexation, signed by Nolan S. Edwards and Helen M.
Edwards, his wife, and Ethel E. Poore, being all the residents, voters and
property owners in the area proposed to be annexed to the Town of Greens-
boro in said Petition;

And Whereas, said Petition for Annexation conforms with the re-
quirements of Section 19 (c) of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1957 Edition, with 1969 Supplements);

THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, By the Mayor and
Council of Greensboro, this 11th day of December, 1969, that the following
Ordinance be enacted, pursuant to Section 19 of Article 23A aforesaid and
subject to the provisions hereinafter set forth:

Section 1. BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED by the Mayor and
Council of Greensboro that the corporate limits of the Town of Greensboro
be extended to include an area north of, and contiguous to, the present
limits of said Town, by annexing the area bounded on the east and north
