in which case the special election shall be held on the following day. The
newly elected Mayor and Councilmen shall take office on the second Mon-
day of the month following the special election. The vote count for a spe-
cial election for Mayor and Councilmen shall be the same as provided under
Section 31 of this Charter as amended.
Amendment #6

30A. (Special Election Upon Amendment of Charter) A special
election for the offices of Mayor and all councilmen will be held thirty (30)
days after the adoption of more than three simultaneous amendments to
the Town Charter specifically to include charter amendments incorpo-
rating this amendment whether such amendments be the result of Petition
under Article 23A Section 14 or of action by the Town Council under
Article 23A Section 13 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Those elected
will serve as Mayor and Town Councilmen until the next regular election.

Charter Amendment No. 10-69

Amendment No. 8

(An amendment repealing and re-enacting with amendments Section
31 of the Charter to provide that the second and third sentences of said
section be deleted and to substitute therefor: The candidate for Mayor
with a majority of votes cast in the general election for this office shall be
declared elected as Mayor. In the event a candidate for Mayor does not
receive a majority of the votes cast in the general election there shall be a
special election between the two candidates receiving the highest number
of votes. The Mayoral candidates who receives the majority of votes cast
in the special election will be declared elected as Mayor.) (420 voted for
the amendment, and 227 voted against it.) TEXT IS BELOW

Charter Amendment No. 11-69

Amendment No. 9

(An amendment to add a new paragraph to Section 31 of the Charter
to provide for a run off election in the event of a tie for the sixth position
on the Council Board) (429 voted for the amendment, and 201 voted
against it.) TEXT IS BELOW

Registration, Nominations, Elections

31. (Vote Count) After the closing of the polls, the Board of Super-
visors of Elections shall determine the vote cast for each candidate or
question and shall certify the results of the election to the clerk of the
Town who shall record the results in the minutes of the Council. The
candidate for Mayor with a majority of the votes cast in the general elec-
tion for this office shall be declared elected as Mayor. In the event a candi-
date for Mayor does not receive a majority of the votes cast in the general
election, there shall be a special election between the two candidates re-
ceiving the highest number of votes. Of the two Mayoral candidates who
run in the special election, the candidate receiving the majority of the votes
cast will be declared elected as Mayor.
(Amendment #8)

The six candidates for Councilman with the highest number of votes
in general election will be declared elected as Councilmen. In the event of
a tie for the sixth position on the Council, those candidates receiving the
same number of votes for the sixth position will participate in a special
election.
