2334                               Municipal Charters

serve for terms of two years and in every odd numbered year the qualified
voters of the town shall elect one person as a Mayor to serve for a term of
two years. (413 persons voted for the amendment, and 245 voted against
it.)

Charter Amendment No. 7-69

Amendment No. 5

(An amendment repealing and re-enacting with amendments Section
29 of the Charter of the Town of Glenarden, Maryland to extend the
voting hours from 12:00 Noon to 8 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Registration, Nominations and Elections

29.    (Conduct of Elections) It is the duty of the Board of Super-
visors of Elections to provide for each special and general election a suit-
able place or places for voting and suitable ballot boxes and ballots and/or
voting machines. The ballots and/or voting machines shall show the name
of each candidate nominated for elected office in accordance with the pro-
visions of this Charter, arranged in alphabetical order by office with no
party designation of any kind. The Board of Supervisors of Elections
shall keep the polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on election days or
for longer hours if the council requires it. (444 voted for the amendment,
and 219 against it.)

Charter Amendment No. 8-69

Amendment No. 6

(An amendment repealing and re-enacting Section 30 of the Charter
of the Town of Glenarden, Maryland to provide that in the event a special
election is required per Section 31 (Vote Count), said special election shall
be held Thirty days after the general election unless the thirtieth day falls
on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, in which case the special election shall
be held the following day. The newly elected Mayor and Councilmen shall
take office on the second Monday of the Month following the special elec-
tion. The vote count for the special election for Mayor and Councilmen
shall be the same as provided under Section 31 of this Charter as amended.)
(423 voted for amendment, 234 voted against it.)

Charter Amendment No. 9-69

Amendment No. 7

(An amendment to add a new Section 30A to the Charter providing
that a special election for the office of Mayor and all Councilmen will be
held thirty (30) days after the adoption of more than three simultaneous
amendments of the charter, with those elected to serve as Mayor and
Council until the next regular election.) (349 voted for amendment, 303
voted against it.)

Registration, Nominations and Elections

30.    (Special Elections) All special Town elections shall be conducted
by the Board of Supervisors of Elections in the same manner and with the
same personnel, as far as practicable as regular Town elections. In the
event a special election is required per Section 31 (Vote Count), said
special election shall be held thirty (30) days after the general election
unless the thirtieth (30th) day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday,
