Charter Amendment No. 69-2
Mayor and Common Council of Capital Heights, Maryland

A Resolution and Ordinance to repeal and re-enact with amend-
ments Sections 8-6, 8-12, 8-13, 8-21, 8-29, and 8-33 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Prince George's County, Maryland (1963 Edi-
tion), subtitled, "Capitol Heights," and to repeal Sections 8-30, 8-31,
8-34, and 8-35 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's
County, Maryland (1963 Edition), subtitled "Capitol Heights," re-
moving the Office of Treasurer as an elected office and providing
for the appointment of the Treasurer by the Mayor of Capitol Heights,
with the approval of the Council of Capitol Heights, and generally
defining the powers and duties of the Town Treasurer, and further
increasing the Compensation of the Mayor to Seventy-five Dollars
per month, and increasing the Compensation of Council Members to
Fifty Dollars per month.

Section 1. BE IT RESOLVED, ENACTED AND ORDAINED by the
Mayor and Common Council of Capitol Heights, Maryland, that Sections
8-6, 8-12, 8-13, 8-21, 8-29, and 8-33 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Prince George's County, Maryland, (1963 Edition), subtitled, "Capitol
Heights," being sections of the Charter of the Mayor and Common Council
of Capitol Heights, Maryland, be and the same are hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

8-6. Officers: qualifications, compensation.

The voters of said town who shall possess the necessary qualifications
as hereinafter stated shall on the first Monday of May, 1922, and there-
after biennially on the first Monday of May in each second year elect at
such place or places as may be appointed by the Mayor and Common Council
for the holding of elections, from the respective candidates nominated as
hereinafter provided, one person to serve as Mayor for a period of two
years and six persons to serve as Common Councilmen for the term of
two years. [There shall also be elected on the first Monday of May, 1922,
by the voters of said town a Treasurer of said Town, who shall hold office
for a period of two years, and at each election thereafter a new election
for Treasurer shall be held].] The Mayor [Treasurer]) and Common Coun-
cilmen must each be voters of said town and have resided in said town for
at least two years immediately preceding their election, and must each be the
owner of and assessed on the town assessment books with at least one
hundred dollars ($100) of land, and must remain so during their respective
terms of office. Neither the Mayor nor any of the Common Councilmen
shall, during his term of office, hold or be interested directly or indirectly
in any other office under the town administration or be appointed to or
interested directly or indirectly in any contract to which the town is a
party. The Mayor of the Town of Capitol Heights shall receive as compensa-
tion the sum of [Ten ($10) Dollars for each regular meeting attended
by the Mayor to reimburse him for his expenses in connection with the
Office of Mayor.] Seventy-five ($75) Dollars per month.

Each Councilman elected, qualified and holding office under this Char-
ter, shall receive a compensation of [Five ($5) Dollars for each regular
meeting attended to reimburse him for his expenses in connection with
the Office of Councilman.] Fifty ($50) Dollars per month.
