Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and At-
torneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," to provide for an
increase in the number of Assistant State's Attorneys and com-
pensation therefor, in Anne Arundel County AND TO PROVIDE
FOR WHETHER THEY SHOULD SERVE FULL-TIME OR
PART-TIME.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(c) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Replacement Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Attorneys
at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

40.

(c) In Anne Arundel County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary
is thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000.00) annually. (2) The State's
Attorney may appoint a deputy State's attorney whose salary shall
be as set by the County Council of Anne Arundel County, but not
less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) annually. (3) The
State's Attorney may appoint [eight] ten assistant State's attorneys,

[each of whose salaries shall be as set by the County Council of

Anne Arundel County, but each of whose salaries shall not be less
than six thousand five hundred dollars ($6,500.00) annually] WHO
SHALL SERVE PART TIME OR FULL TIME AS THE
STATE'S
ATTORNEY SHALL DESIGNATE
. the THE salary of two assist-
ant State's attorneys shall be such compensation not exceeding
eighteen thousand five hundred dollars ($18,500.00) annually as the
State's Attorney may deem proper
AND THEY SHALL SERVE

FULL-TIME or at such higher compensation as the County Council

of Anne Arundel County may approve; . THE FULL-TIME AS-
SISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS DURING THEIR TERMS OF
OFFICE SHALL NOT, EXCEPT IN CONNECTION WITH AND
IN PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES AS ASSISTANT
STATE'S ATTORNEYS, APPEAR AS COUNSEL OR REP-
RESENT ANY PARTY PROFESSIONALLY BEFORE ANY
COURT, MAGISTRATE, BOARD, COMMISSION OR AGENCY
OF THIS STATE OR ANY COUNTY OR POLITICAL SUB-
DIVISION OF THIS STATE. IT IS INTENDED BY THE
PROVISIONS HEREIN THAT THE FULL-TIME ASSIST-
ANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS SHALL NOT ENGAGE IN THE
PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW IN ANY MATTER WHATSO-
EVER, the THE salary of four assistant State's attorneys, WHO
SHALL SERVE FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME AS THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY SHALL DESIGNATE, shall be such compensation not
exceeding fourteen thousand dollars ($14,000.00) annually as the
State's Attorney may deem proper or at such higher compensation as
the County Council of Anne Arundel County may approve; the salary
of four assistant State's attorneys,
WHO SHALL SERVE FULL-
TIME OR PART-TIME AS THE STATE'S ATTORNEY SHALL
DESIGNATE, shall be such compensation not exceeding twelve
thousand dollars ($12,000.00) annually as the State's Attorney may

deem proper or at such higher compensation as the County Council

of Anne Arundel County may approve. (4) The State's Attorney
may appoint one administrative assistant whose salary shall be as set
by the County Council of Anne Arundel County but not less than five
thousand dollars ($5,000.00) annually.
