CHAPTER 717
(House Bill 1318)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(c)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and
Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," to provide for an
increase in the salary of the State's Attorney and Deputy State's
Attorney in Anne Arundel County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(c) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Replacement Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Attorneys
at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

40.

(c) In Anne Arundel County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary
is [thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000.00)] twenty-two thousand
five hundred dollars ($22,500.00)
TWENTY THOUSAND FIVE
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($20,500.00) NINETEEN THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($19,000.) annually. (2) The State's Attorney may ap-
point a deputy State's attorney WHO SHALL SERVE FULL-TIME
AND whose salary shall be [as set by the County Council of Anne
Arundel County, but not less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00.)
annually] such compensation not exceeding twenty thousand dollars
($20,000.00)
EIGHTEEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOL-
LARS ($18,500.) annually as the State's Attorney may deem proper
or at such higher compensation as the County Council of Anne Arun-
del County may approve
.
(3) The State's Attorney may appoint
eight assistant State's attorneys, each of whose salaries shall be as
set by the County Council of Anne Arundel County, but each of
whose salaries shall not be less than six thousand five hundred dollars
($6,500.00) annually. (4) The State's Attorney may appoint one ad-
ministrative assistant whose salary shall be as set by the County
Council of Anne Arundel County but not less than five thousand
dollars ($5,000.00) annually.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
public general or public local, inconsistent with the provisions of
this Act, are hereby repealed to the extent of any such inconsistency.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on the first day of the term of the State's Attorney elected in
November of 1970.
