Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this
Act increasing the Sheriff's salary shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the sheriff in office on the effective date of this Act, but
the provisions of this Act increasing such salary shall take effect
with the next term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 710
(House Bill 949)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 98B(5),
(9) (A), (9)(B), (10(a) and (11) (a) of Article 52 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1969 Sup-
plement) , title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magistrates
System"; respectively, increasing the salaries of the Chief Judge,
Association Judges, Chief Clerk, AND Deputy Clerk and the Con-
stables
of the People's Court for Anne Arundel County, PROVID-
ING FOR AN ADDITIONAL COMMITTING MAGISTRATE TO
SERVE AS CHIEF COMMITTING MAGISTRATE, PROVIDING
FOR THE SALARY OF THE CHIEF COMMITTING MAGIS-
TRATE, INCREASING THE SALARIES OF THE FULL-TIME
COMMITTING MAGISTRATES, and providing for an additional
Constable.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 98B(5), (9) (A), (9) (B), (10) (a) and (11) (a) of Ar-
ticle 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement
Volume and 1969 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace," sub-
title "Trial Magistrates System," be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments to read as follows:

98B.

(5) The Governor shall designate one of the judges of said court
as chief judge and administrative officer who shall receive an annual
salary of [nineteen] twenty three TWENTY-ONE thousand five hun-
dred dollars [($19,500.00)] $23,500.00 ($21,500.00). The other full-
time judges shall receive an annual salary of [nineteen] twenty three
TWENTY-ONE thousand dollars [($19,000.00)] ($23,000.00)
($21,000.00).

(9) (A) THE GOVERNOR, BY AND WITH THE ADVICE
AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE, SHALL APPOINT [ELEVEN
(11)] TWELVE (12) JUSTICES OF THE PEACE IN ANNE
ARUNDEL COUNTY, [EIGHT] NINE OF WHOM SHALL BE
DESIGNATED COMMITTING MAGISTRATES, ONE OF WHOM
SHALL BE DESIGNATED AS CHIEF COMMITTING MAGIS-
TRATE,
AND THREE OF WHOM SHALL BE DESIGNATED
DEPUTY COMMITTING MAGISTRATES. WHERE PRAC-
TICABLE, THEY SHALL BE FROM DIFFERENT GEO-
