He shall receive a salary not exceeding [three thousand six hun-
dred dollars ($3,600)] seven thousand dollars ($7,000) per annum,
payable monthly or semi-monthly and shall receive no extra or other
compensation or fees of any kind for the duties now imposed upon
himself by law by the provisions of this subtitle or otherwise, which
may properly appertain to his office.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 337
(House Bill 718)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(b)
(1) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Re-
placement Volume), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys In
Fact," subtitle "State's Attorneys," increasing the salary of the
State's Attorney of Allegany County and providing for the ap-
plicability and effect of this increase.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (b) (1) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume), title "Attorneys at Law and
Attorneys In Fact," subtitle "State's Attorneys," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

10.

(b) (1) In Allegany County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary
shall be not less than [seven thousand five hundred dollars
($7,500)] twelve thousand dollars ($12,000), in the discretion of
the Board of County Commissioners.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed or applied to affect the salary of the State's Attorney
of Allegany County who is in office on the effective date of this Act,
for the remainder of the regular term in which he then is serving.
It is the legislative intent that any increase in salary for the
State's Attorney of Allegany County shall take effect as of the begin-
ning of the term of the State's Attorney who is elected to that posi-
tion at the time of the regular election in the month of November
1970.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That subject to the provisions
of Section 2 hereinabove, this Act shall take effect on July 1, 1969.
