System," to permit a teacher who originally elected not to become
a member of the Retirement System to join the system and
receive credit for previous service IF THE OPTION TO JOIN
IS EXERCISED PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31, 1969.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 110(4) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public Education," subtitle
"Teachers' Certificates, Salaries and Pensions," subheading
"Teachers' Retirement System," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

110.

(4) A teacher whose membership in the Retirement System is
contingent on his own election and who [elects] elected not to be-
come a member, may thereafter BEFORE DECEMBER 31, 1969,
apply for and be admitted to membership [between July 1,
1951, and December 31, 1951, both dates inclusive, and who
has been employed as a teacher continuously since the time
he or she was first eligible for membership, and]. Such
person
shall receive [all membership and] prior service [bene-
fits as provided for other members of the system and in accordance
with Sections 108, 110, 112 and 113 of this article. Before being
admitted to such membership, any such person] credit for service
rendered prior to the date he was first eligible to become a member
and membership credit for service rendered subsequent thereto, pro-
vided that he
shall pay to the Retirement System [the full amount
of what would have been his accumulated] , by a single payment
prior to his retirement or death, the
contributions [therein] which
he would have made
had he in fact belonged to the system [from the
time he was first eligible to become a member thereof to the time
of making application for such membership,] during the period he
was eligible,
together with regular interest thereon.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 333
(House Bill 696)

AN ACT to waive the provisions of Section 10 of Chapter 759 of
the Acts of 1967, said section relating to the time by which proj-
ects contained in the General Construction Loan of 1967 must be
placed under contract, insofar as the provisions of said section
applies to the item in Section 5(N)(4)(a) in said Construction
Loan Act, which provides certain monies for construction of an
Academic Building on the Baltimore County Campus of the Uni-
versity of Maryland; and to extend for two years the period during
which the said item may be placed under contract.
