elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 259
(House Bill 169)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 10 of
Article 35 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Evidence," subtitle "Competency of Witness," to
provide that no conviction may be used for any purpose under this
Section when the conviction is being appealed or the time for
noting an appeal has not expired.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 10 of Article 35 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Evidence," subtitle "Competency
of Witness," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

10.

In all cases it shall be competent for any of the parties to the
proceedings to prove by legal evidence any facts showing the interest
of any witness in the matter in controversy, or in the event of the
suit or the conviction of such witness of any infamous crime, and in
order to prove such conviction it shall not be necessary to produce
the whole record of proceedings containing such conviction, but the
certificate, under the seal of the clerk of the court wherein such pro-
ceedings were had, stating the fact of the conviction and for what
crime shall be sufficient. No conviction may be used for any purpose
under this Section when the conviction is being appealed or the time
for noting an appeal has not expired.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 260
(House Bill 192)

AN ACT to add new Section 194B to Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement Volume), title and subtitle
"Crimes and Punishments," to follow immediately after SECTION
194A thereof and to be under the new subheading "Fraud—Upon
Cable Television Companies," creating the crime of obtaining cable
