and expedite action on said claims. It shall be the duty of State
Service Officer to supervise the State service centers provided for
in paragraph 7 of this Article, and to keep in contact with the United
States Veterans Administration so that the status of any claim shall
be known at any time; to continue to survey the State in order that
no veterans or their dependents may be neglected and to perform such
other duties as the Commission may direct. The State Service Officer,
and the other employees of the Commission, shall be paid, in addition
to the salaries to which they are entitled under the Standard Salary
Law of the State, their actual and necessary traveling expenses while
engaged in the performance of such duties as the Commission may
authorize and direct. Direct financial relief, under this subtitle, shall
be limited to veterans or the chronically sick, disabled or indigent
widows or infant children of veterans who have been residents of
Maryland for at least one year immediately prior to the date of their
application for such relief, and providing no compensation is being
received from any other state or country.

The Maryland Veterans Commission shall make and preserve a
permanent registry of the graves of all persons who served in the
military or naval forces of the United States in time of war, who
are buried in the State of Maryland.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 241
(Senate Bill 507)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 3 of
Article 96½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replace-
ment Volume and 1968 Supplement), title "Veterans," subtitle
"Maryland Veterans Commission," to provide terms of office for
members of the Commission and to provide that current members
of the Commission shall draw lots to determine the length of their
terms of office.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 3 of Article 96½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume and 1968 Supplement), title "Veterans,"
subtitle "Maryland Veterans Commission," be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

The Governor shall appoint a Commission, known as the "Mary-
land Veterans Commission," to be composed of seven Maryland
veterans, one of whom shall be designated by the Governor as chair-
man. The additional members appointed in 1966 shall be appointed
from those areas of the State where population so demands. On or
before August 1, 1969, the members of the Commission then serving
shall draw lots to determine the length of their respective terms of
office. One member shall serve a seven year term of office, one member
