CHAPTER 192
(Senate Bill 117)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 231 of
Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement
Volume), title "Licenses," subtitle "Real Estate Brokers," to pro-
vide the penalty for any unlicensed real estate broker or salesman
engaging in such business.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 231 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1968 Replacement Volume), title "Licenses," subtitle "Real Estate
Brokers," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

231.

Any person acting for himself or herself or for or on behalf of
any copartnership or corporation, not specifically exempted from
this provision of this subtitle, who shall after June 1, 1939, engage
in the business or act in the capacity of a real estate broker or real
estate salesman within this State, without a license or shall carry
on or continue such business as either real estate broker or salesman
after the suspension or revocation of any such license to him or it
issued, or shall retain the services of any person as a real estate
salesman to whom a license as a real estate salesman had not been
issued, or whose license as such shall have been revoked or suspended
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction
thereof, shall be sentenced [for the first offense to pay a fine of not
less than fifty dollars ($50) nor more than one hundred dollars
($100), and for a second and any subsequent offenses shall be sen-
tenced] to pay a fine of not less MORE than five hundred dollars
($500) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1000)
TWO THOU-
SAND DOLLARS ($2000) or undergo imprisonment for a period of
not more than one (1) year, or both in the discretion of the court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 193
(Senate Bill 558)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 217 (c)
of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Licenses," subtitle "Real Estate Brokers,"
providing that certain applicants as a prerequisite for a license as
a real estate broker must have successfully completed a course of
instruction approved by the Real Estate Commission.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
