Department of Motor Vehicles, at least 60 days notice of the date on
which his license shall expire as provided in this section. The appli-
cation shall require the full legal name, residence address, race, sex,
height, weight, and date of birth of the applicant, whether the appli-
cant ever has had a driver's license refused, revoked, cancelled or
suspended, the applicant's general physical condition, and such other
information and answers as the Commissioner by regulation shall
require.

(d)    Notwithstanding subsection (b), a license held by any per-
son who enters or is on active service in the Armed Forces of the
United States shall continue in full force and effect so long as such
active service continues and such person is absent from this State,
and for a further period of thirty days following the date of such
person's discharge or separation from active service or return to this
State, unless such license is sooner suspended, cancelled or revoked
for cause according to law. Such license which otherwise would
have expired under subsection (b) shall be valid only if the licensee
has in his immediate possession, together with such license, his
papers indicating his active service outside this State or his dis-
charge or separation, as the case may be.

(e)    The Department is authorized to destroy the records of the
expired licenses six months after the renewals of licenses have
become effective.

(f)    Upon an original application for licensing as provided for
in this Article, the licenses of all such new applicants shall become
effective as of the date of issue.

(g)    Violation of this section shall be deemed to be a misde-
meanor and upon conviction, shall be punishable by a fine of not less
than five dollars ($5.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00)
or by imprisonment not to exceed sixty days or by both such fine
and imprisonment. For a second or subsequent conviction of viola-
tion of subsection (a) of this section, the following penalties are
applicable, fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00), or im-
prisonment not to exceed six months, or both.

(a)    All operators', chauffeurs', special chauffeurs' and motor-
cycle operators' licenses issued under Article 66½ of this Code prior
to January 1, 1971, shall continue to be valid and shall authorize
the licensee to drive all classes of vehicles which the licensee was
authorized to drive under said license until the expiration of such
license at which time it shall be simultaneously converted and
renewed.

(b)    The holder of an operator's, chauffeur's or special chauf-
feur's license, issued prior to January 1, 1971, may convert and
renew such license to a Class D license any time within sixty days
of expiration of same, upon payment of a fee of $2.00.
