CHAPTER 101
(House Bill 1352)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(n) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to increase
the salary of the sheriff and the deputy sheriffs in Kent County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (n) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and
Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

37.

(n) The Sheriff of Kent County shall receive an annual salary
of [$6,000] $6,500.00 and $750 annually during his term toward an
automobile or automobiles, as may be deemed necessary by the
County Commissioners to be used by him and his deputies for gen-
eral work of the office. He may appoint not more than two deputies
who shall receive an annual salary of [$4,500] $5,500.00 and an
allowance to be made by the County Commissioners to the Sheriff
and his deputy or deputies for such mileage as may be accumulated
in the course of their duties at the same rate as paid other county
officials and employees and other such additional allowances as the
Commissioners may deem necessary.

The County Commissioners shall allow said Sheriff such funds as
shall be necessary to compensate a matron and a cook at the Kent
County jail.

The County Commissioners may authorize such additional deputies
as may be necessary and shall fix their compensation upon their
appointment by the Sheriff.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the Sheriff in office on
the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act relating
only to the Sheriff shall take effect at the beginning of the next
term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That subject to the provisions
of Section 2, this Act shall take effect July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 102
(Senate Bill 24)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 178(3)
of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "Agents and
Brokers," increasing the fee for taking an examination for a life
insurance, health insurance, or annuity license.
