AN ACT to add new Section 50A to Article 9 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Charles County (1965 Edition, being Article 9 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Charles
County," subtitle "County Commissioners," to follow immediately
after Section 50 thereof, and to be under the new subheading
"Public Landings," to authorize the County Commissioners of
Charles County to acquire two areas of land on navigable waters
for use as public landings, establishment of a "Watermen's Com-
mittee," and other matters relating thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 50A be and it is hereby added to Article 9 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Charles County (1965 Edition, being
Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Charles County," subtitle "County Commissioners," to follow im-
mediately after Section 50 thereof, and to be under the new subhead-
ing "Public Landings," to read as follows:
PUBLIC LANDINGS
50A. Acquisition of land required.
(a) Areas. The County Commissioners shall, within six months
after July 1, 1969 acquire two areas of land on navigable waters,
one to be located in the Fifth Election District and the other in the
Third Election District of Charles County, for use as public landings.
Such areas may be acquired by purchase, gift, lease, or otherwise.
and in the event that the County Commissioners are unable to con-
tract with the owner for the acquisition of any such area of land
required for the purpose, they may proceed to acquire the same by
condemnation in the same manner prescribed for the acquisition of
Public County Roads.
(b) Landings. The County Commissioners shall maintain a safe
wharf SUITABLE FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING VES-
SELS ENGAGED IN THE SALE AND PURCHASE OF SEA-
FOOD, or other proper landing facilities at each such location, and
shall provide adequate approaches and parking facilities, including
facilities for commercial vehicles engaged in or related to the sea-
food industry. In discharging its duties under this sub-section, the
County Commissioners may either construct and maintain such fa-
cilities, lease, or contract for same, or engage in any combination
thereof, and so far as practical shall utilize funds, services and fa-
cilities, available through the Department of Chesapeake Bay Af-
fairs, the Corp of Engineers and other agencies, governmental or
otherwise, concerned with the improvement and maintenance of
Marine facilities.
(c) Regulations. The County Commissioners are empowered to
establish regulations for the use of such publi |
