731. Scope of Examination.

The examination provided in subsection (a) of Section 730 shall
consist of:

(1) Tests of knowledge in the following areas as they pertain to

the fitting of hearing aids.
(i) Basic physics of
sound.

(ii) The human hearing mechanism, including the science of

hearing and the causes and rehabilitation of abnormal hearing and
hearing disorders.

(iii) Structure and function of hearing aids.

(2) Tests of proficiency in the following techniques as they

pertain to the fitting of hearing aids.

(i) Pure tone audiometry, including air conduction testing and
bond conduction testing.

(ii) Live voice or recorded voice speech audiometry, including
speech reception threshold testing and speech discrimination testing.

(iii) Effective masking.

(iv) Recording and evaluation of audiograms and speech audio-

metry to determine hearing aid candidacy.

(v) Selection and adaptation of hearing aids and testing of hear-

ing aids.

(vi) Taking earmold impressions.

(A)    A WRITTEN EXAMINATION COMPILED AT THE
DISCRETION OF THE BOARD.

(B)    A DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY IN THE
TECHNIQUES REQUIRED, COMPILED AT THE DISCRE-
TION OF THE BOARD.

(C)    EVIDENCE OF KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THE
MEDICAL AND REHABILITATION FACILITIES FOR CHIL-
DREN AND ADULTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN THE
AREA SERVED.

(D)    THE EXAMINATION ADMINISTERED AS DIRECTED
BY THE BOARD CONSTITUTING STANDARDS FOR
LICENSING SHALL NOT BE CONDUCTED IN SUCH A
MANNER THAT COLLEGE TRAINING IS REQUIRED IN
ORDER TO PASS THE EXAMINATION. NOTHING IN THIS
EXAMINATION SHALL IMPLY THAT THE APPLICANT
SHALL POSSESS THE DEGREE OF MEDICAL COMPETENCE
NORMALLY EXPECTED OF PHYSICIANS.

732. Registration and Issuance of Certificates; Fees.

(a) Upon payment of $20, the Board shall register each applicant
who satisfactorily passes the examination. Thereupon the Board
shall issue to the applicant a certificate of registration. The certifi-
cate of registration shall be effective for one year.
