SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1969.

(House Bill 1101)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (j) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," increasing the salary of the Dorchester
County State's Attorney, providing for payment of office rent and
clerical and secretarial expenses of the Dorchester County State's
Attorney, providing for the appointment, duties and compensation
of assistants to the Dorchester County State's Attorney, PROVID-
ING FOR THE APPLICATION AND EFFECT OF THIS ACT,
and relating generally to the office of the State's Attorney for
Dorchester County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(j) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact,"
subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
40.
(j) In Dorchester County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is
fifty five hundred dollars ($5,500.00), and on and after the first Mon-
day in January, 1970, the salary shall be eleven thousand dollars
($11,000.00) [and the County Commissioners shall pay the other
reasonable expenses of his office, including reasonable rent] ELEVEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($11,000.00).
(2) [The State's Attorney's allowance for clerical expenses and sec-
retarial services is four thousand four hundred dollars ($4,400.00).]
The County Commissioners of Dorchester County shall pay all
reasonable expenses for the conduct of the State's Attorney's office
including, but not limited to, rent, clerical and secretarial expenses,
upon vouchers submitted by the State's Attorney.
(3) The State's Attorney may from time to time, if deemed wise
or necessary, with the approval of the judge of the Circuit Court
of Dorchester County, appoint [a temporary assistant State's At-
torney for a particular case or series of cases and may fix his com-
pensation] and fix the compensation of assistant State's Attorneys
who shall present such cases to the Dorchester County Grand Jury
and perform such other acts and duties in relation to the Grand Jury,
Circuit and People's Courts of Dorchester County, as deemed neces-
sary.
SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT NOTHING
IN THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED OR APPLIED TO
CHANGE OR AFFECT THE SALARY OF THE STATE'S AT-
