CHAPTER 434
(House Bill 132)

AN ACT to add new Sections 725 through 736 inclusive to Article 43
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume
and 1968 Supplement), title "Health," to follow immediately after
Section 724 thereof and to be under the new subtitle, "Sani-
tarians," to establish a Board of Sanitarian Registration to
examine and register Sanitarians and to establish duties and
responsibilities for this Board; to provide for examination and
registration of Registered Sanitarians and Sanitarians-in-train-
ing; to provide for the issuance, renewal, reinstatement, and
revocation of certificates of registration; to provide for expendi-
tures of funds collected under provisions of this Subtitle; to
provide for penalties for the violations of this Subtitle; and
relating generally to the duties and responsibilities of the Board
of Sanitarian Registration.

Whereas, It is the purpose and intent of the General Assembly
to safeguard the health, safety, and general welfare of the public,
and to maintain and promote a healthful environment for the citizens
of the State through the improvement of the professional level and
competency of the Sanitarian; therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 725 through 736 inclusive be and they are hereby
added to Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965
Replacement Volume and 1968 Supplement), title "Health," to follow
immediately after Section 724 thereof and to be under the new
subtitle, "Sanitarians," all to read as follows:

Sanitarians
725.

For purposes of this Subtitle:

(1)    "Board" means the Board of Sanitarian Registration.

(2)    "Sanitarian" means a person who by education, experience,
and ability is qualified to provide, through the application of physi-
cal, biological and sanitary sciences, the educational, investigational,
and technical services essential to the promotion of environmental
health.

(3)    "Registered Sanitarian" means a Sanitarian registered in
accordance with the provisions of this subtitle.

(4) "Sanitarian-in-training" means a person registered as a
Sanitarian-in-training under the provisions of this subtitle.

(5) "Certificate of Registration" means a document issued by
the Board as evidence of registration and qualification to practice
as a Registered Sanitarian or a Sanitarian-in-training under this
subtitle.

(6) "Commissioner" means the Commissioner of the State De-
partment of Health.

(7) (6) "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Board of Sani-
tarian Registration.
