Whereas James Grayes Wife has reported of John Taylor that he would have layon with her at a Certain time when he and I was down the neck, These may Certifie that I was along with him & did see no Such accon by him, Her manner of ill behaviour in any Sort which can make Oath when there unto required as Witness my hand this 11th day of November, 1695. — Teste George Watt // the marke of A Thomas Prior And this day (viz) the day aforesd Came the Jurors of the afd Jury on tryall betwixt our Soveraign Lord the King and the sd John Taylor, which sd Jury being prticularly Calld, being then demanded were all unanimously agreed of their Verdict, the Plt & defendt likewise being Calld, the Verdict is read in Court as followeth (viz) Wee of the Jury doe find John Taylor Guilty in offering Violence to Elizabeth Cowing. John Porter. forman. — Which foresd Verdict this Court Ordered to be entered, — Likewise the sd Court further Ordered the Same Jury to enquire into what damages the sd Eliz had Susteined by the sd Taylor which sd Jury were by Vertue of ye Order afd Sworn to enquire &ca. and the Same day as afd the sd Jury of enquiry made returne of their Verdict being all agreed thereon ye Plt & Dft being Calld the Verdict is thus read (viz) Wee of the Jury doe Value the damages of Elizabeth Cowin one thousand pounds of tobacco. John Porter. Whereupon this Court gave Order agt the sd Taylor accordingly (viz) that he the sd Taylor Should pay unto Eliz Cowin one thousand pounds of tobacco with Cost alias Executio. —
James Gray :& his Wife made Oath in open Court before mr Saml Hopkins that they attended as Evidences for ye King agt Jno Taylor & Craved Order for ye Same, wch was granted // for four dayes a piece // viz. vid 116 fo// ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Robert Prentice made Oath that he attended four dayes as Evid. for ye King agt Jno Taylor & Craved ordr for ye Same wch to him was granted Sworn before James Round. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Memorand that this day viz the 24th day of Janry ano Dom 1695/6 Capt Wm Coulbourne made Oath upon the holy Evangelists that he Attended four dayes & his Wife four dayes as Evidences on behalf of or Soveraign the King agt John Taylor Sworn: before ffra Jenckins Tho Dixon. } ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Anno 1695 Cozne West these are to Certifie yw that Nathaniel Horsey was Sworn before me the 30 th day of this Instant to six dayes tendance in an accon depending between mr James.
