(a) As used in this subtitle, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated unless a contrary meaning is clearly intended
from the context in which the term is used.
(b) The term "architect" means a person registered by the
Board for the practice of architecture in this State.
(c) The term "Board" means the Maryland Architectural Regis-
tration Board.
(d) The term "Building" means any structure, existing or pro-
posed, classified as an improvement upon real property under Mary-
land Law, whether above or below grade and whether publicly or
privately owned. Groupings of buildings, including all related
facilities between and around individual buildings within said
groupings, are included in the meaning of the term "Building".
(e) The term "Practice of Architecture" means the rendering of
any professional service, such as consultation, investigation, evalua-
tion, planning, architectural design and preparation of related docu-
ments, coordination of services furnished by structural, civil,
mechanical, electrical engineers and other consultants in connection
with the construction of any building or integral part or parts
thereof or any addition or alteration thereto.
(E) THE TERM "PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE," WITHIN
THE MEANING AND INTENT OF THIS ARTICLE, SHALL
MEAN ANY SERVICE OR CREATIVE WORK THE PERFORM-
ANCE OF WHICH REQUIRES ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION,
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IN SUCH SERVICES AS CON-
SULTATION, INVESTIGATION, EVALUATION, PLANNING,
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND PREPARATION OF RE-
LATED DOCUMENTS, COORDINATION OF SERVICES FUR-
NISHED BY STRUCTURAL, CIVIL, MECHANICAL, ELECTRI-
CAL ENGINEERS AND OTHER CONSULTANTS IN CONNEC-
TION WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF ANY BUILDING OR
INTEGRAL PART OR PARTS THEREOF OR ANY ADDITION
OR ALTERATION THERETO.

(a) The Governor shall appoint , WITH THE ADVICE AND
CONSENT OF THE SENATE, five competent persons, citizens
and residents of the State of Maryland, to constitute The Maryland
Architectural Registration Board. The Board shall be constituted
and compensated as follows:
(b) The Board shall be comprised of five members to be architects
of recognized standing, at least three of whom are graduates of
schools of architecture accredited by the National Architectural
Accrediting Board and all of whom have been engaged in the inde-
pendent practice of architecture in the State of Maryland for a
period of ten or more years at the time of their appointments. The
term of office of said members shall be five years of which one
expires each year; and as the term of each member expires the
Governor shall appoint his successor for a term of five years. Any
vacancy occurring at any time in the personnel of the Board shall
be filled by the Governor's appointing a successor for the unexpired
